Roxane Zand Director, Sotheby's Middle East and Gulf Region, responsible for implementing a strategic plan for the region, a key area for growth in Sotheby's future global business.

Roxane Zand began a career in museum and arts administration in 1978 and was part of the start-up team for the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art but left Iran in 1980 after the Revolution, resuming professional activities in London in the field of education, mainly at Oxford University. She has worked with the Khalili Collection of Art, as well as with the Iran Heritage Foundation, and is a Senior Advisor to the Board of SEO London, the UK's premier diversity recruitment organization for investment banking. She has also been an Editor of the Encyclopaedia Islamica at the Institute of Ismaili Studies, and has undertaken numerous PR, marketing and fundraising projects for the art world.
Sotheby's is sponsoring the Educational Programme for the Gulf Art Fair (now Art Dubai)- a series of informative talks, seminars and presentations, primarily focusing on contemporary art and designed to give aspiring collectors and art lovers an insight into the current state of the market, recent trends, and artistic developments within the field from the 1960s onwards.

Sotheby's history of involvement with the Middle East dates back to 1755 when the company first sold Islamic Art. Since 1980 Sotheby's has been holding two sales a year in London (in April and in October) and in the last 10 years, has sold almost £85 million worth of Islamic works of art.
